1. Aims and Scope

The Journal of Emerging and Innovative Technologies (JEIT) is a peer-reviewed, open-access journal published by Qassim University. JEIT publishes original research articles, technical reports, prototype studies, review articles, case studies, and short communications in the fields of advanced engineering, computer science, and applied technologies.

JEIT considers articles covering: Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Internet of Things (AIoT), Innovative Engineering Solutions, Renewable Energy and Sustainability, Environmental Technologies, Robotics and Automation, Advanced Manufacturing, Industry 4.0 and 5.0, Computer Science, Smart Cities, Cybersecurity, Blockchain, and AI Ethics.

2. Types of Manuscripts

Original Research Article Max 6,000 words

Original investigations presenting novel findings, experiments, or models in emerging technologies and engineering fields.

Review Article Max 8,000 words

Comprehensive reviews synthesizing current knowledge on specific topics in technology and engineering, including systematic reviews and meta-analyses.

Technical Note / Short Communication Max 2,000 words

Brief reports of significant preliminary findings, novel methods, or timely technological breakthroughs requiring rapid dissemination.

Case Study Max 4,000 words

In-depth analyses of real-world technology implementations, innovative solutions, or industry applications with measurable outcomes. Maximum 4 authors.

Conceptual / Theoretical Paper Max 6,000 words

Papers presenting new theoretical frameworks, models, or conceptual contributions to emerging technology fields.

Editorial

By invitation only. Editorials are not open for general submission.

Letter to the Editor Max 750 words

Commentaries on published JEIT articles or brief reports of novel findings relevant to the journal scope.

3. Manuscript Preparation

3.1 General Formatting

  • Font: Times New Roman, 12pt throughout
  • Line spacing: Double-spaced
  • Margins: 2.5 cm on all sides
  • Page numbers: bottom-right
  • File format: Microsoft Word (.docx)
  • Language: American English
  • Units: SI units (encouraged)
  • Decimals: Use a zero before decimal points (e.g., 0.25, not .25)

3.2 Manuscript Structure

  • Cover Page: Full title, author names, affiliations, corresponding author contact, funding sources, running title (≤45 characters)
  • Abstract: Structured, maximum 300–500 words. Include: Objective, Methods, Results, Conclusion. No references or figures.
  • Keywords: 3–6 keywords using IEEE taxonomy where possible
  • Introduction: Max 500 words. Problem statement, research gap, objective, contribution summary
  • Materials and Methods / System Design: System architecture, algorithms, hardware/software platforms, experimental setup, data sources, ethical approvals
  • Results: Clear presentation with figures, tables, and performance metrics
  • Discussion: Interpretation, comparison with prior work, limitations, future directions
  • Conclusion: Summary of key findings and practical implications
  • Acknowledgment: Funding, institutional support, and contributions
  • References: IEEE citation style, numbered sequentially

3.3 Authorship

Each author must contribute substantially to at least one of the following: conceptualization, system design, data acquisition, algorithm development, drafting or critically revising the manuscript, final approval, or accountability for the integrity of the work.

  • Maximum 8 authors for all manuscript types
  • Maximum 4 authors for Case Studies and Technical Notes
  • Author names cannot be added, removed, or reordered after acceptance

3.4 Figures and Tables

  • Minimum figure resolution: 300 DPI
  • Preferred formats: JPEG or TIFF
  • Figure captions: placed below the figure
  • Table headings: placed above the table
  • Maximum table size: 10 columns × 25 rows
  • Tables must not be split over two pages
  • No patient or participant identifiers in figures

3.5 References

  • Follow IEEE citation style
  • Number citations consecutively in square brackets: [1] or [2,3] or [4–6]
  • Up to six authors, then "et al."
  • Unpublished papers: cite as "unpublished"
  • Accepted papers: cite as "in press"

3.6 Code and Data Availability

  • Authors are encouraged to share source code, datasets, and models via public repositories (e.g., GitHub, Zenodo, Kaggle)
  • Provide repository links and DOIs where available
  • Any restrictions on data sharing must be disclosed at submission

4. Ethical Requirements

4.1 AI Use Policy

JEIT follows WAME recommendations on AI use. AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, image generators) cannot be listed as authors. Any use of AI in writing, analysis, coding, or image generation must be fully disclosed. Authors remain responsible for accuracy, originality, and absence of plagiarism.

4.2 Research Ethics

Research involving human subjects must comply with the Declaration of Helsinki and include IRB approval number and consent statement. Studies involving animal subjects require institutional animal ethics approval. Authors must disclose any potential ethical concerns related to their research.

4.3 Authorship and Copyright

All manuscripts must comply with IEEE authorship criteria. Each author's contribution must be clearly stated using the CRediT taxonomy. JEIT is published under CC BY-NC-SA 4.0. Authors retain copyright.

4.4 Conflict of Interest

Authors must disclose any potential conflicts of interest — financial, academic, or personal. If none exist, include the statement: "The authors declare no conflicts of interest."

4.5 Plagiarism

All submissions are screened using iThenticate before peer review. Plagiarism in any form — including self-plagiarism — is strictly prohibited and results in immediate rejection.

5. Submission

Manuscripts must be submitted through the JEIT online submission system. Required files at submission:

  • Manuscript file (.docx) — complete manuscript
  • Cover letter — confirming originality and no dual submission
  • Figures — high resolution, minimum 300 DPI, separate files
  • Tables — separate files if applicable
  • Supplementary files — if applicable
  • Code/Data links — repository URLs if applicable

6. Editorial Process

  1. Pre-Check (1 week): Screening for scope, plagiarism, formatting, and ethical compliance
  2. Peer Review (3–4 weeks): Double-blind review by minimum 2 independent experts
  3. Editorial Decision: Accept / Minor Revision / Major Revision / Reject
  4. Author Revision: Point-by-point response letter with revised manuscript. Proof corrections within 3 days.
  5. Production: Copyediting, typesetting in IEEE-aligned format, DOI assignment
  6. Publication: Open access — freely available immediately upon publication

7. After Publication

Authors retain copyright under CC BY-NC-SA 4.0. Corrections are published separately when errors do not invalidate the study. Retractions are issued if scientific integrity is substantially compromised and follow COPE Retraction Guidelines. Author names cannot be modified after publication. Formal appeals may be submitted with detailed point-by-point arguments to the Editor-in-Chief.
