This page is designed to help you ensure your submission is ready and fits the scope of the Saudi Veterinary Journal (SVJ). Before submitting, please carefully read our Author Guidelines to ensure your manuscript meets all formatting and submission requirements.

The Saudi Veterinary Journal (SVJ: ISSN: 3122-3168) is the official journal of the College of Veterinary Medicine of Qassim University. SVJ is a peer-reviewed, open-access journal that publishes original research articles, review articles, innovation and invention reports, short papers, forums, and book reviews of specialized interests in all areas of veterinary medicine. SVJ considers articles in all aspects of veterinary medicine, including anatomy, histology, internal medicine,  infectious diseases, parasitology, endocrinology, applied biochemistry, microbiology, immunology, pathology, pharmacology, physiology, epidemiology, molecular biology, surgery, dermatology, oncology, animal reproduction, veterinary public health, zoonotic diseases, One Health, and safety and hygiene of food of animal origins.

Submission Checklist

  • Originality: The submission is an original investigation and has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration.
  • Formatting: The manuscript follows the journal template, using Times New Roman 12 font size with 1.5 line spacing throughout.
  • Abstract: A single paragraph abstract of maximum 250 words is included, highlighting the research gap, methods, results, and conclusions.
  • Keywords: Three to six related keywords specific to the article are provided.
  • Ethical Approval: For studies involving animals, required ethical approvals from an Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) are obtained and mentioned with approval codes.
  • Human Subjects: For investigations involving human materials, authors have followed the Declaration of Helsinki and obtained Institutional Review Board (IRB) approval.
  • AI Compliance: No generative AI or AI-assisted tools have been used for creating or altering images in the manuscript.
  • Conflict of Interest: A specific declaration regarding potential conflicts of interest is included (e.g., 'The authors declare no conflicts of interest').
  • Funding Disclosure: All funding received for the work has been clearly disclosed.
  • Authorship: The contribution of each author is stated, and all named authors agree with the content and form of the manuscript.
  • References: References are numbered in order of appearance and indicated by numerals in square brackets.

Copyright Notice

Authors who publish in the Saudi Veterinary Journal (SVJ) retain copyright of their work. SVJ is an open-access journal published under the Creative Commons Attribution License (CC BY 4.0), which permits unrestricted use, distribution, and reproduction in any medium, provided the original work is properly cited.

By submitting a manuscript to SVJ, authors confirm that:

  • The work is original and does not infringe any existing copyright.
  • They have the right to publish the work.
  • All authors have approved the final manuscript.
  • They agree to the journal's open-access policy.

Note: All authors must sign the Copyright Agreement Form prior to publication.

Peer Review

  • Peer Review Process: Saudi Veterinary Journal (SVJ) strictly follows a systematic editorial process with a built-in quality control mechanism.
  • Independent Review: The journal does not accept or publish manuscripts without a prior peer review process conducted by two or more experts from the same field as the authors.
  • Double-Blind Review: To ensure an unbiased process, all identifying information about the author is removed from the submission by the managing editorial board before review.
  • Editorial Independence: Academic editors and reviewers work independently from the editorial office when making their decisions on submitted manuscripts.
  • Review Criteria: Reviewers and editors evaluate manuscripts based on study scope, originality, plagiarism checks, compliance with journal guidelines, and interest to the readership.
  • Final Decision: The final editorial decision is made through discussion between the editor and executive editor, and must be approved by the Editor-in-Chief.
  • Possible Outcomes: After review, a manuscript may be: Accepted as is, Accepted with minor changes, Accepted after substantial revision and additional review, or Rejected.
  • Revision Cycles: The journal board typically allows up to two rounds of major revisions for a manuscript.
  • Author Appeals: Authors have the opportunity to submit a formal appeal with detailed point-to-point arguments if they object to a rejection decision after revision.

Licences

The following licences are allowed:

  • CC BY 4.0 (external link, opens in new tab).

    Attribution — You must give appropriate credit, provide a link to the license, and indicate if changes were made. You may do so in any reasonable manner, but not in any way that suggests the licensor endorses you or your use. No additional restrictions — You may not apply legal terms or technological measures that legally restrict others from doing anything the license permits.

Publication Fees

  • Submission and Publication: Saudi Veterinary Journal (SVJ) is a peer-reviewed, open-access journal.
  • Article Processing Charges (APC): SVJ charges no Article Processing Charges. Submission and publication are completely free for all authors.
  • Open Access Model: All articles are published under the open access model, making the full text available to everyone immediately upon publication.

Retraction Policy

 

SVJ is committed to the integrity of the scientific record. Retractions are considered when:

  1. Clear evidence exists that the findings are unreliable due to misconduct or honest error.
  2. The findings have been previously published elsewhere without proper attribution.
  3. The work constitutes plagiarism or contains fabricated or falsified data.
  4. The work reports unethical research.

Process:

  • Retraction before publication requires editorial board approval upon the author's request.
  • Retraction after publication follows investigation by the editorial board on a case-by-case basis.
  • The editorial board will contact authors, reviewers, and institutions if necessary.
  • A retraction notice will be published separately and linked to the original article.

Note: If any charges were applied, no refunds will be made following retraction.
